As we all know, the Call of Duty franchise has always offered us games better than ever before. Every new release is exceptional in terms of its gameplay, plot and everything else. Similarly, Call of Duty: Black Ops offers an entirely new experience and if you compare it to the previous versions you will know how massive the plot is this time. This is one reason of the game’s enormous popularity. To date, millions of copies have been sold of this version. In other words, you can say that it is one of the bestselling games of all times. Some fans have complained about the game’s plot and gameplay but that’s simply because of the change it has offered. As mentioned earlier, this version of Call of Duty is different from rest of them so make sure you are prepared for it!
The Plot
The game starts with Alex Mason being interrogated by a dark figure. You don’t really get to know who these people are. Now, here is the best part – the overall game is based on Alex’s flashbacks. You play the game in his flashbacks. Whatever missions he has accomplished and whatever battles he has been involved in is the plot you need to go through. Unlike the previous versions of the franchise, this one has quite a lot of twists and turns in the plot. At times you will feel completely bored and at times highly excited but that’s what we call living up to the spirit of it. To be honest, the previous versions were full of action and gun-shooting but this one has a bit of melodramatic element as well to it. What’s even better about it is that the story moves slowly and smoothly to the climax unlike Modern Warfare.
Good News for the Fans
Call of Duty fans are mostly interested in the multiplayer versions of it and why shouldn’t they be? After all, that is what has made the franchise so popular. In this very context, Black Ops does a wonderful job of presenting fans with a much more focused and fun-filled multiplayer mode. You are offered with CoD points unlike Modern Warfare 2. In addition, as you level up and earn experience points, you unlock class slots, new modes of the game, Create-A-Class and of course better weapons to be purchased.
Initially, you might feel that the system integrated in this game is difficult to comprehend but once you get used to it you will know that it is actually better than what was offered before. The most exciting part is when you level up and acquire 1’000 CoD with which you can actually buy anything you like to. And, to make it sound more alluring for you – you can even transform your style of playing the way you want it to be. However, be careful while buying a new weapon or transforming your style because there is no going back!
The Wager Match Modes
The Wager Match modes are what the fans have loved the most about Black Ops. These modes are basically designed to elevate the significance of CoD Points. The two modes which are considerably the best ones are the One in the Chamber and the Gun Game.
The Standard Modes
The standard modes are quite impressive as well. The Team Deathmatch, Headquarters and Domination are the best ones and they are actually quite useful for levelling up. If you hit 50 points you unlock the Prestige Mode which is more difficult yet exciting than all three of them.
Bottom Line
Despite of some criticisms, Black Ops has been one of the most successful games in the franchise mainly because of the twisted and unique storyline it offers, the graphics, and of course the gameplay options. Single players might not love it that much, but multiplayer game enthusiasts would love it to death!
